Seitan (aka Wheat Meat) A meat substitute

Well, I've been away on vacation again and haven't been blogging, I've been busy doing other stuff.
One of the things that I've been doing over the past couple of days is experimenting with Seitan, or Wheat Meat.
Seitan is made from pure wheat gluten so if you have Celiac Disease you'll want to just skip over this information.
Seitan is awesome stuff. When you prepare this food, like tofu, it has almost no taste at all and anything you add to this stuff will flavor it. My wife came up with this and said she wanted to try it. We found a video on how to make Seitan on youtube and gave it a try (here's the video we used: How to make Seitan) You can buy this product in stores (I found it at my favorite health food store) but it tends to be very expensive for what you get. I found a small package of Chorizo flavored Seitan it was only a few ounces and was nearly six dollars. Making it was a bit more involved than I thought it would be. It was a process that took about two hours but yielded Seitan by the pound and cost about four dollars.
During the cooking process we added a collection of spices that is sold as a steak rub, the spices contain no meat or animal products, just spices, but left the seitan tasting like beef. When done I tossed the stuff into a blender and it yielded something that looked identical to ground beef. My wife used this to make her homemade chili. I was amazed! When done the chili had the look, taste, and texture of her original homemade chili.
I'm sold on this stuff.

I'm looking forward to experimenting with this stuff further.
Seitan is very low in fat and has only 370 calories in three-and-a-half ounces.
Here's a breakdown of the nutritional values of seitan.
